Celebrating Community and Care

More Than a Meal: Hope at the Aurora Food Pantry

In this month’s blog, we honor National Canned Food Month and shine a light on the vital work at our Aurora Food Pantry.

February is National Canned Food Month. It’s a time to reflect on the importance of food security and the role communities play in caring for one another. At Volunteers of America Ohio & Indiana, our Aurora Food Pantry is essential to supporting local individuals and families as they work toward rebuilding their lives.

Managed by Jeff Jackson, the Aurora Food Pantry reflects the heart of the community. It’s where generosity, compassion, and care come together every day. In Jeff’s words:

“I feel very blessed to be able to help individuals and families who are facing food insecurity. Along with providing food, the pantry also fosters a sense of community by connecting with individuals and families, and creating a supportive environment where people feel valued, treated with dignity, and given hope. I feel that we are truly making a positive difference for people.”

We rely on community donations to keep the food pantry available to the community. Jeff went on to share:

“Without support from the community, we would not be able to do what we do.”

In addition to donations from individuals, there are many organizations who support the Aurora Food Pantry including Food 2 Share, the local Knights of Columbus, VFW, Giant Eagle, and a family-run business called Mazzulos who also donates turkeys and hams during the holidays.

These efforts help support community members like this gentleman who is grateful the Aurora Food Pantry can help his family:

“I truly want to thank Jeff and his staff for the milk, eggs, butter, cheese, veggies, fruit and canned goods to help make my life less stressful. My family is living on my retirement only, so I am very grateful for the family at Volunteers of America, their contribution has been life-saving.”

This is the kind of impact that drives Jeff’s dedication every day.

“It motivates me to know that we are truly making a difference in the lives of families and individuals.”
