Volunteers of America Ohio & Indiana hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony for their new Legacy Recovery House on Thursday, December 18 at 10 AM. The ceremony symbolizes the grand opening of this community project designed to give families a place to recover and heal together.
“We are excited to open the doors to this incredible community resource just outside Indianapolis in Plainfield. This recovery residence will be a resource for families to heal and get the support they need to rebuild their lives. We’re honored to bring much needed recovery housing to the Plainfield community.”

Volunteers of America Ohio & IndianaLegacy Recovery House is a family-friendly recovery residence with comprehensive support designed for women who have completed intensive residential substance use disorder treatment. Legacy Recovery House consists of three three-bedroom units with 17 bedrooms to serve families. The homes will be state-certified as a Level III recovery residence, providing around-the-clock support and peer connections to women who have completed residential substance use disorder treatment at a Fresh Start Recovery Center in Indiana, and reside in either western Marion or Hendricks counties.
This new Legacy Recovery House is a $2 million dollar investment by Volunteers of America Ohio & Indiana and their partners. It is also part of a bigger community project which is inclusive of the future Winding Way Townhomes, which marks a $12 million investment in the Plainfield and Hendricks County communities. This Plainfield location marks the fourth recovery residence like this for Volunteers of America in the state of Indiana.
Volunteers of America thanks their capital partners, Indiana University Health Community Impact Investment Fund (CIIF) and United Way of Central Indiana, whose investment made the recovery residence possible. They also recognize the PNC Foundation for helping furnish the space with items that promote stability and healing for the families who will call it home.
