Celebrating National Volunteer Month

This April, we’re celebrating National Volunteer Month! It’s a time to recognize the incredible individuals who give their time, talents, and compassion to help build stronger, healthier communities for all. Whether they’re organizing donations, supporting special events, or showing up wherever help is needed most, volunteers are a driving force behind the positive change we see every day.

Across our programs, volunteers make a meaningful difference in countless ways. Their dedication reaches veterans, individuals, and families alike, helping each person move toward stability and hope.

This month, we’re proud to celebrate the volunteers who go above and beyond.

USI Insurance Services

“We really enjoyed our Operation Backpack project and making an impact for Fresh Start Recovery – we put together 300 backpacks for the Children whose Moms are in recovery. VOA’s mission is providing compassionate human services that empower individuals and strengthen local communities. Our USI Gives Back initiative each year in August is all about Working together as ONE for a better future for our communities. Our teams have a passion for getting involved and helping others in need. That definitely aligns!”

Pam Meadows, USI Insurance Services

Old National Bank

“I’m incredibly proud of the work our team does each year to support veterans through this partnership. Our staff gets very passionate about supporting this cause, and there’s always a strong sense of purpose and energy during the campaign. Every donation, every act of kindness, and every moment of service contributes to restoring hope for someone who has served our country. I’m grateful for VOA’s ongoing collaboration and look forward to continuing to grow this effort in the years ahead.”

148 Ministries

“148 Ministries has been providing programming for VOA since 2017 on a regular basis! In 2026, we provide programs at Theodora House, Brandon Hall, and VOA Evansville. We provide “workout & worship” sessions at these locations which involve getting the residents moving, providing some refreshments, and ending with a Christ centered worship service or bible study discussion group. We go in, without judgement, and share with them the there is hope in Jesus for forgiveness, restoration and a purpose for their life.”

David Storvick, 148 Ministries

Dollar Bank

“Dollar Bank begin its partnership with VOA in 2023.  We gave a grant through the Dollar Bank Foundation in support of Judge Sara J. Harper Village.  Also in 2025, we supported Operation Backpack with Channel 19 News, with all collected backpacks going to VOA, which we will be supporting this effort again in 2026. The atmosphere amongst staff when participating in volunteer projects with VOA is amazing! The staff is responsive and excited to be a part of giving back to the most vulnerable communities we serve; helping others in need.”

Dorothy Curtis, DollarBank

Individual Volunteer

“I have volunteered for the Veterans Day Dinner several times. Volunteering at the dinners helps me remember how lucky we are to have people who are willing to make sacrifices for our safety and freedom. These men and women who have served our country are receiving much needed assistance from VOA and it makes me feel proud to be part of the VOA family.”

Deidre Salois, Individual Volunteer

Swagelok

“Swagelok has proudly partnered with Volunteers of America for several years as part of our broader commitment to supporting individuals and families in need—particularly veterans and those experiencing housing insecurity. Through this partnership, our associates have supported a range of impactful initiatives, including housing support efforts, donation drives, and volunteer projects focused on restoring stability and dignity for those served by VOA. The atmosphere among our associates during VOA volunteer projects is overwhelmingly positive and energizing. Participation fosters a deep sense of teamwork, pride, and shared purpose. These projects reflect our belief that strong communities are built when organizations come together to meet real needs with compassion and action.”

 Lawrence Walton, Swagelok

At VOA Ohio & Indiana, we are incredibly grateful for individual volunteers and partners like Old National Bank, USI Insurance Services, 148 Ministries, DollarBank, and Swagelok and so many others who generously give their time and resources to help their communities thrive. They play an important role in supporting local services, whether it’s volunteering, collecting donations, or other projects that create lasting positive change. Volunteers have a meaningful impact and help ensure that we can continue to serve and uplift our communities.
