It’s National Reading Month!

Celebrate with VOA Thrift.

Hey, Thrifters! National Reading Month is here and we hope you’ll celebrate with us! It’s the perfect time to get lost in a good book from VOA Thrift! Our shelves are stocked with hidden gems, bestsellers, and cozy classics ready to take you on your next adventure. You never know what you’ll find, but that’s part of the fun!

Whether you’re a book worm or simply enjoy the occasional read, everyone needs a bookmark!

In celebration of National Reading Month, here’s a very simple DIY bookmark to keep your place in your adventure:

One: Gather your materials:

  • Thick construction paper or wrapping paper
  • Scissors
  • Ruler
  • Markers or stickers to decorate your bookmark

Two: Measure your piece of paper into a perfect square. We recommend 4 inches by 4 inches.

Three: Cut your square.

Four: Fold your paper in half to create a triangle.

Five: Fold two of the corners toward the middle to create a smaller square or diamond shape.

Six: Open your paper back up and lay flat.

Seven: Take the top layer point and fold backward.

Eight: Take the left corner and fold up into the center to create the first side of your pocket. Repeat with right side corner.

Nine: Add stickers or decorate with doodles.

Find your next read at VOA Thrift and enjoy your bookmark for National Reading Month!

If you’re looking for another way to celebrate National Reading Month, we’re hosting a book drive for stories that inspire hope! Books will be added to our growing libraries in our residential programs as well as given to the children of the men and women who use our services.
