Celebrate your four-legged friends!

In this month’s blog, we explore a simple DIY project to help your furry best friend feel special.

August is National Dog Month! How are you celebrating with your favorite four-legged friend? You could take your pup on an extra walk, out for an ice cream treat, or work on a special, super simple craft. In this month’s blog, we explore ways VOA Thrift can help you celebrate National Dog Month.

Dog clothing, essentials, and accessories can be expensive! VOA Thrift often has previously loved costumes, bowls, toys, beds and more so you can show your furry friend love without breaking the bank.

We also have this SUPER simple DIY project to dote on your dog. Seriously, so simple. This blogger’s dog loves wearing a bandana around his neck because it makes him feel special and happy! You can easily find materials at VOA Thrift to accomplish this project.

How to make a bandana for your dog:

Step 1: Gather materials:

  • Material or t-shirt
  • Scissors
  • Measuring tape
  • Sewing machine if you’re feeling fancy (this blogger isn’t)

Step 2: Measure your material accordingly:

  • X-Small: 9 x 8 in. (Chihuahuas and other small but mighty pups)
  • Small: 11 x 8.5 in. (Corgi, Pug, and other pups a little bigger than the smaller guys)
  • Medium: 13 x 9 in. (Border Collie, Bull Terrier, Beagle)
  • Large: 15 x 9.25 in. (Bernese Mountain Dog, Mastiffs)

If you plan to sew the edges around (the fancy approach), add about ¼ an inch on all sides.

Step 3: Cut your fabric carefully.

Optional Step 4: Sew the edges, if you so desire.

Step 5: Give your pup a treat while you show him or her your new special gift so they can get used to it. Then, be sure to give them treats as they wear it too so they’ll love it as much as you do.

We hope you have a pawsome time with this month’s project!
