You can help a family in need this holiday season!
Many families struggle to put food on the table or even find a safe place to sleep at night – so when the holiday season comes around, it's no surprise that many of these families do without gifts and presents for their children and loved ones. With your help, we can make this Christmas a little brighter for Columbus families in need.
Keep in mind, we only have about 65 families that need adopting. As of November 28, 2018 all of our families have been adopted. Thank you to everyone who adopted a family this holiday season.
If you were not assigned to a family, there are still plenty of other ways you can give back to help families during the holidays.
Other meaningful ways to help Columbus families in need
We are always looking for extra donations to help the homeless families and veterans we serve during the cold, winter months. Please consider holding a holiday gift drive at work or church to collect household items, cleaning supplies, hygiene items, hats, coats, scarves and gloves.
Right now, we desperately need Welcome Home Kits to give out when someone gets the keys to their new apartment and is ready to move in. These Welcome Home Kits, or lovingly referred to as Move-In Buckets, include cleaning supplies, hygiene items and household items like shower curtains, sponges, trash cans and anything you might need when you move into a new home. Most of our families move in with very few belongings if any. By donating supplies for these Welcome Home kits, you can help a family make their house into a home. You can donate these Welcome Home Kits by buying items from our Amazon Wish List, hosting a donation drive or donating a single Welcome Home Kit. Every little bit helps.
You can also donate money and we'll use it to buy extra gifts and food for the families and veterans we serve!

What does it mean to adopt a family?
When you "adopt" a family, you are helping to take away a big financial hurdle for families in need by donating Christmas presents they otherwise wouldn't have. The Adopt-A-Family program benefits the families in our Columbus housing programs – families who are homeless or at-risk of being homeless and struggling to make ends meet. By adopting a family, you are giving hope for the holidays.
How does it work?
We will provide a brief family profile when you are paired with a family. We will also provide a Christmas list of suggested items to purchase. We encourage you to get two or three items per family member. When you adopt a family, you are under no obligation to spend a specific amount of money, though it is standard to give three gifts, totaling under $100, per person.
How do I get started?
If you are ready to help a family in need this Christmas, email firstname.lastname@example.org, or call us at (614) 253-6100. Generally, we start accepting donors and matching families in mid-October to early November. We will pair you with a family and send you their family profile by early November.
All gifts should be wrapped and dropped off at our administrative office located at 1776 East Broad Street, Columbus Ohio 43203.
