A history rich with kindness
We are Volunteers of America
We are more than a nonprofit organization. We are a ministry of service with nearly 1,000 paid, professional employees dedicated to helping people reach their full potential and build a brighter future.
Volunteers of America is a ministry of service dedicated to helping people reach their full potential.
Through thousands of human services programs, including housing and healthcare, Volunteers of America helps nearly 2 million people across the country – more than 23,000 in Ohio and Indiana alone.
Established locally in 1896, our ministry of service has supported and empowered homeless veterans, at-risk youth, the frail elderly, men and women returning from prison, homeless individuals and families, people with disabilities, and those recovering from addictions. Our work touches the mind, body, heart – and ultimately the spirit – of those we serve, integrating our deep compassion with highly effective programs and services.
Learn more about the Core Values that are most important to our work and help guide us in all that we do: respect & trust, integrity, ministry of service, and creativity & innovation. Only by upholding these Core Values and honoring our legacy of mercy and compassion can we continue to offer hope to the individuals and communities we serve.
We are an accredited organization, meeting international standards for quality according to the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities International (CARF). Accreditation demonstrates that our organization values the input of our clients and is accountable to the community.
